Embracing the Outdoors 

Frequent contact with nature and participation in outdoor learning activities allow our students to explore their environment with their whole selves.

Ways we prioritize the outdoors: 

  • Classes go outside rain or shine 

  • Outdoor classroom 

  • Incorporate nature into learning 

  • Green spaces for snack, reading, brain breaks 

  • Appropriate time for recess 

  • Natural play area 

  • Wooded campus

Selective Screen Time

We prioritize developmentally appropriate technology use, introducing screens intentionally and with a clear purpose. 

 

  • K-1: Technology-free learning environment 

  • 2-3: Limited, purposeful technology used to support learning 

  • 4: School-assigned Chromebooks are used purposefully to enhance learning and remain on school premises 

  • Middle School: Each student is assigned a Chromebook used purposefully for research, writing, and digital skills development. Students receive intentional instruction in digital citizenship and responsible AI use. Chromebooks still remain stored at school.

Creative Intelligence

Creative intelligence is developed by encouraging out-of-the-box thinking to allow children to become independent thinkers and problem solvers.

 

How we foster creative intelligence:

  • Student-led productions

  • Students view themselves as “makers”

  • Opportunities to demonstrate their thinking and learning through a variety of products

  • Dive-in and Flex Time: open exploration, freedom to investigate personal interests, unstructured, free thinking time
