Building the Next Chapter
Phase 1 Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Building the Future campaign?
Building the Future is the first capital campaign in Redeemer Episcopal Day School's history — a defining milestone for our community. Phase 1 of this two-phase vision will fund the construction of a new building that makes a full K–8 experience at REDS a permanent reality. The campaign goal is $1,000,000. We must secure $300,000 of the $1 million by December 2026 in order to get the project underway in January 2027.
What will Phase 1 build?
Phase 1 will fund the construction of a 1,420-square-foot octagonal addition extending from our main lobby. Thoughtfully designed to complement the Colonial-style brick architecture of the Church of the Redeemer campus, the new building will feature abundant natural light and highly flexible space that serves both the school and the broader parish community.
During the school day, the space will function as dedicated classrooms for our growing middle school. Upon completion of Phase 2, it will transition into a permanent school library — a lasting academic home for generations of REDS students.
What is the total two-phase vision?
The full two-phase campus expansion envisions a total investment of $4.8 million. Phase 2 will include future specialized spaces such as a dedicated science lab and collaborative learning environments that complete our middle school wing. Phase 1, the $1 million investment we are raising for now, lays the foundation for everything that follows.
Why is this campaign happening now?
On nearly every admissions tour, one question comes up: "Do you go through middle school?"
Families today are not making enrollment decisions just for next year — they're thinking about the next nine years. They want fewer school transitions, deeper relationships, and a community that grows with their child. With 170 students currently enrolled and enrollment approaching our capacity of 178, REDS is already responding to real demand. This campaign ensures we can answer families with permanence, not just aspiration.
What will REDS middle school look like?
REDS Middle School will be an intentional extension of everything that makes our school exceptional:
-
Personal — Every student known deeply, academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Students encouraged to understand themselves and advocate for their own needs.
-
Rigorous — High-level, discussion-based instruction with integrated academics, foreign language, and arts.
Project-based learning that mirrors real-world collaboration.
-
Leadership-Focused — Middle school students serving as mentors and leaders within the broader K–8 community, with genuine opportunities for voice, responsibility, and service.
-
Experiential — Learning that extends beyond classroom walls, with daily access to outdoor spaces and field experiences that connect education to real life.
Middle school at REDS will not simply extend our grade levels. It will extend our mission.
When does the middle school launch?
This fall, REDS launches its middle school beginning with fifth and sixth grades. The Building the Future campaign will provide the dedicated facilities to support that program as it grows and as enrollment grows with it.
How will this expansion affect enrollment and finances?
This is not hypothetical growth — it is growth we are already experiencing. Enrollment is projected to grow from 170 students today to more than 200 students by the 2028–29 school year, including a middle school of 45 students. At full implementation, this expansion is projected to increase tuition revenue by more than $180,000 in the first year alone — strengthening the long-term financial foundation of REDS without increasing class sizes or compromising program quality.
Without permanent middle school facilities, REDS risks losing families after 5th grade, reduced enrollment predictability, and delayed revenue during a critical season of growth.
How does Phase 1 serve the church as well as the school?
The new addition will be a shared-use space that deepens the partnership between REDS and the Church of the Redeemer. Evenings and weekends will provide opportunities for parish meetings, small groups, and community events — ensuring that this investment strengthens the entire campus community, not just the school.

Has this project been approved by school and church leadership?
Yes. This project has received unanimous endorsement from the REDS School Board and the Church of the Redeemer Vestry. The Board has committed to 100% participation in the campaign — reflecting strong internal confidence in the vision and aligned leadership across both school and church.
Will this affect tuition?
No — and that's a core reason this campaign matters. By funding campus expansion through philanthropy rather than tuition, REDS can grow sustainably while remaining accessible to families. The Capital Campaign and tuition are entirely separate.
What is the difference between the Capital Campaign and the REDS Fund?
They serve different and complementary purposes.
The Building the Future Capital Campaign funds long-term physical growth — the new octagonal building and future campus improvements. It is supported by major gifts and multi-year pledges.
The REDS Fund supports annual operating needs — faculty support, classroom resources, programming, and the day-to-day experiences that make REDS exceptional. It impacts students right now, this school year.
Both reflect a vital investment in the mission of REDS.
What is the "quiet phase" of the campaign?
The quiet phase began in April 2026. This is the foundational stage of the campaign, during which leadership gifts are secured before the broader public launch in September. Gifts made during this phase have an outsized impact and help build the momentum that carries the campaign to its goal.
Are multi-year pledges accepted?
Yes, and they are warmly encouraged. Multi-year pledges allow you to make a meaningful commitment to REDS over time and are a vital part of how we reach our $1 million goal by January 2028.
How can I support Building the Future?
